Join DACOR for a conversation with H.E. Mathilde Mukantabana, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda to the United States of America, as well as non-resident Ambassador to Mexico and Argentina. The discussion with be moderated by Asha Castleberry-Hernandez. The topic will include a discussion on progress and setbacks in women’s representation in global leadership and gendered perspectives on peace, security, and diplomacy in Africa – Agenda 2063.
Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana's responsibilities include advancing Rwandan policies and priorities abroad, championing Rwanda's culture, history and economy, and leading/engaging Rwanda's residential and professional communities throughout the U.S.
Prior to her diplomatic career, Ambassador Mukantabana served in higher education as a tenured professor of History and as a lecturer in Social Work, served on the Sonoma State University board of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and prior to academia, worked as a social worker for the California State Department of Health.
Ambassador Mukantabana has extensive experience in designing and leading international conferences, and speaking on issues that include genocide/ethnic conflict, conflict resolution, gender equity, education, health, workforce development, and economic and financial inclusion. She is also a published writer on topics ranging from historical biographies to genocide to racial equality and a recipient of numerous awards for her work in peace, justice and reconciliation.
Asha Castleberry-Hernandez is a distinguished national security/foreign affairs. She has over a decade of experience working as a Middle East Policy Expert in the public and private sectors. For the Biden Harris Administration, Asha served as a Senior Advisor (Senior Executive Service) in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (Middle East Policy) in the U.S. State Department. 2012-2015, Asha served in Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan. She previously served as the Kuwait Desk Officer in the U.S. Army Central. Asha also served as a Senior Key Leader Engagement Officer for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve. Before her deployment, Asha worked in the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, where she worked on the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Africa.
