Anthony "Bud" Rock serves as Principal of Global Water 2020, a two-year advocacy and facilitation initiative designed to accelerate progress toward water access and security for all people in developing countries. At this event, he will describe his organization’s recent efforts to bring water to the people of Gaza (and the West Bank) in the face of rapidly diminishing resources and the near elimination of U.S. government assistance. Drawing on his work with local NGO’s in the region, he will also offer perspectives that reach beyond the politics to the challenges and resilience of average Palestinians, and the perceptions of their closest neighbors in Israel.
Prior to joining Global Water 2020, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC). Earlier, Mr. Rock held the position of Vice President for Global Engagement at Arizona State University (ASU). Additionally, he had a three-decade career in U.S. government service. His diplomatic service included appointment as acting Assistant Secretary and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for oceans, environment, science, technology, and health. He served abroad as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, Health, and Non-Proliferation Affairs at Embassy Paris and in the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels. Holding the same portfolio in Embassy Tel Aviv, he also served as the first technical advisor to the President’s Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, leading negotiations on regional water management. Additional assignments in Washington, D.C. included Director of Middle East Trade Affairs.
