Event Type(s):
Salon

Description:
We are pleased to welcome Dr. David Bobb to the April 16th Salon, where he will discuss the future of civic education and the role of international affairs and world history. David joined the Bill of Rights Institute (BRI) as president in 2013 and has worked for 20 years at the intersection of civic engagement and education reform. David speaks widely on behalf of BRI and civic and character education that engages the hearts and minds of young people. In 2004 spoke on behalf of the State Department and the American Federation of Teachers in Baghdad at a conference on the future of K-12 education in Iraq. David has written for the Wall Street Journal and Fast Company, among many other publications, and is the author of Humility: An Unlikely Biography of America’s Greatest Virtue (HarperCollins, 2013). He earned a Ph.D. in political science from Boston College. David and his wife, Anna, live in northern Virginia with their two sons, Walker and Michael.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Do Americans need to teach young people more about American values and how they sometimes support contradictory interests?
