Overview of Slovak, Pakistan and U.S. Relations

Please note this is a hybrid event - you have the option of attending in person or virtually. Registrations are required for all attendees. For in-person attendees, the event will run from 11 - 1:30 pm and will include lunch (11 - 11:30 reception; 11:30 - 12:30 remarks & Q&A; 12:30 lunch). The speaker portion of the event for virtual attendees will begin at 11:30 am (virtual attendees will be sent a link for the event and instructions on how to participate in Q&A via email).

Join DACOR & AAFSW for a conversation with Ambassadors Asad Majeed Khan and Radovan Javorčík on their respective country's relations with the United States. 

Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, a career Pakistan foreign service officer, assumed his current position as Pakistani ambassador to the United States in January 2019. During a diplomatic career spanning nearly three decades, Ambassador Khan's positions have included ambassador to Japan; director general (Americas) at Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and deputy chief of mission at the Pakistani embassy in Washington. He has also held senior diplomatic positions focused on West Asia, the United Nations, the Group of 77 (G77) nations, and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. Ambassador Khan earned his doctorate in international economic and business law (LLD) from Kyushu University in Japan.

Dr. Asad earned his Doctorate in International Economic and Business Law (LL.D.) from Kyushu University Japan and has been a resource person at various academic institutions in Pakistan including International Islamic University, Lahore, University of Management Sciences, Foreign Trade Institute of Pakistan and Foreign Services Academy on International Trade, Law and WTO affairs.

He is married and has two children.

Radovan Javorčík assumed his duties as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the United States of America in January 2021.
 
After graduating from the Slovak Technical University (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and Institute of International Relations at the Comenius University in Bratislava, he joined the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic in  Press and later Foreign Policy Department. Since 1995 he is loyal to the Slovak Foreign Service.
 
At the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs he held a position of  Deputy Director of the Policy Planning Department. After posting at the Slovak Permanent Mission to NATO (1998 - 2002), he continued to work on NATO files as a team leader and later Deputy Director for Security Policy. He was part of a team preparing Slovakia’s accession to NATO, mainly in capacity of the Head of PRENAME (Preparation for NATO Membership Programme).

 His next posting at the Slovak Embassy in London (2005 - 2009) included duties of a Charge d‘Affaires a.i. (2005-2007). He then served as Director of Department for North America and Wider Middle East and again as Director for Security Policy. Later he assumed duties as the Slovak Ambassador in Israel (2011 - 2015). After serving as the Head of the Cabinet of two Deputy Foreign Ministers, he returned to Brussels in 2017 as Ambassador and Permanente Representative of the Slovak Republic on the North Atlantic Council (NATO).
 
Mr. Javorčík is married to a fellow Slovak diplomat Michelle Joanne Javorčíková with whom they have two sons. He speaks fluent English, Czech, Russian and understands French and colloquial German and Spanish.

Visitors are required to show proof of vaccination in the form of a vaccination card, a clear photo of your card, or a DC-approved app. Visitors must also present a photo ID. When registering for in-person attendance, you will be required to attest that you are fully vaccinated and will ensure that any guests you bring to the House are also fully vaccinated.
