Event Description
Join DACOR, GWU Students for Indigenous and Native American Rights and The Department of State's Native American Foreign Affairs Council for a special Native American Heritage Month Celebration.
We will celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure our rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation.
Special guests who will offer short remarks on important work being done to protect and promote tribal sovereignty at home and abroad include:
Michael Orona, Apache and Yaqui, Senior Advisor for Global Strategy and Internatinoal Indigenous Issues at the U.S. Department of State
Stephanie Birdwell, Cherokee, Executive Director, VA Office of Tribal Government Relations
Clay Ward, Choctaw, Director, VA Office of Rural Development
Eleanore Lammers-Lewis, former staff member, Harvard Kennedy School Project on Indigenous Governance and Development
Their remarks will be followed by a fun Happy Hour (cash/credit card accepted at bar) to network with colleagues, make new friends, and reconnect with old ones!
Tribal members are encouraged to wear traditional dress to show their Native Pride!
